The National Union of Taraba State Students (NUTSS) has condemned the alleged assault of a student by a security officer at Taraba State University. The union described the incident as unacceptable and called for strict adherence to the university’s rules and disciplinary procedures.
Signed by NUTSS Vice President Yusuf Yahaya Inuwa, the statement emphasized that security officers are meant to maintain order, not punish students, and must act professionally and with restraint. The union highlighted that students must be treated fairly, with due process observed at all times.
The union urged the Dean of Student Affairs, the Head of Security, and university management to investigate the matter promptly and take appropriate action. They stressed that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done to maintain trust on campus.
While pursuing institutional channels, NUTSS called on students to remain calm, law-abiding, and avoid retaliatory actions that could escalate tensions. The union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of all students in Taraba State.
