Authorities in Edo State have demolished a building in Amagba, Oredo Local Government Area, over alleged links to cult violence. Officials said the property was connected to suspects tied to recent killings. The action followed a security operation targeting criminal groups in the area. The government described the move as part of a broader crackdown.
According to a statement released in Benin City, two suspected members of the Aye confraternity were arrested, while five others reportedly escaped. Authorities believe seven individuals were involved in the incidents under investigation. Security operatives say efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects. The suspects already identified have been declared wanted.
The demolition was carried out by a special security task force set up to tackle cultism and kidnapping. Officials said the squad acted on intelligence linking the property to criminal activities. They stressed that enforcement would continue until such crimes are eliminated. The operation also included sealing another residence tied to a different suspect.
Governor Monday Okpebholo reaffirmed that the state’s anti-cultism law would be strictly enforced. He warned that no individual, regardless of status, would be shielded from prosecution. Authorities say the crackdown aims to restore safety and public confidence. Residents have been urged to share information with security agencies.
