Former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai has been taken into custody by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission after earlier being released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He was moved to the commission’s Abuja office after spending about two days with the EFCC.
Earlier reports suggested he had been arrested by the Department of State Services, but officials later clarified that he is currently with the ICPC for questioning. Spokesperson J. Okor Odey confirmed the development, saying the former governor is being held in connection with ongoing investigations.
The DSS had already filed a case at the Federal High Court accusing him of illegally intercepting communications linked to National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. The charges followed remarks El-Rufai made during an interview on ARISE Television, where he claimed he heard a conversation involving the NSA.
Separately, the Kaduna State House of Assembly had earlier accused him of financial misconduct involving large public funds, allegations he denied and challenged in court. The former governor, who led Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, insists the accusations are politically motivated.
