Monday sit-at-home: Again, Soludo seals shops, commends other traders for compliance

The Anambra State Government has once again enforced its directive against Monday sit-at-home compliance by sealing shops that failed to open for business in parts of Onitsha and surrounding communities. Officials carried out the action during a monitoring tour of major markets, stressing that economic activity must continue normally despite lingering fears tied to previous shutdown practices.

During the inspection, authorities reported that many traders at the Electrical Parts Dealers Market in Obosi opened their shops, showing growing confidence in the state’s security measures. The government praised those who complied, describing their decision as a sign of trust in efforts to restore stability and revive commerce across the state.

However, a different situation was observed at the Building Materials Market in Ogidi, where several shops remained locked. Officials sealed the affected stores and announced that they would stay closed for two weeks as a penalty. The monitoring exercise was led by the Special Adviser on Markets, Evarist Uba, alongside other senior government representatives tasked with assessing compliance levels.

Market leaders who accompanied the inspection team expressed support for the government’s stance, noting that improved security has encouraged traders to resume normal activities. They urged others to cooperate with authorities, emphasizing that collective participation is essential for rebuilding economic strength and ensuring markets operate without disruption.
