Former U.S. President Barack Obama has reacted after Donald Trump shared and later deleted an AI-generated video on Truth Social that portrayed him and former First Lady Michelle Obama in a racist manner. The clip reportedly included offensive caricatures and referenced disputed claims about the 2020 election. White House officials later said the post was not authorised and was removed once it came to their attention.
During an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, Obama described the video as troubling but noted that most Americans still believe in respect and decency. He said that while such posts may attract attention online, they distract from more important national issues. According to him, many people across the country value kindness and proper conduct in public life.
The deleted video reportedly featured animated elements inspired by The Lion King and music from “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.” However, critics pointed out that the content carried racial undertones that many found offensive. The clip was widely condemned on social media before it was taken down.
Obama also criticised what he described as a decline in decorum in political communication. He said that social media has created an environment where shocking content spreads quickly without much accountability. According to him, respect for public office and civil behaviour should remain a priority, regardless of political differences.
