2027: North Central Youths commit to voter mobilization drive

Youth groups from Nigeria’s North Central region have pledged to begin an aggressive voter mobilisation campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections. The coalition said its goal is to encourage young people and first-time voters to participate fully in the democratic process. Leaders of the movement explained that greater youth involvement is key to shaping the future of the country.

According to the organisers, the drive will include awareness programmes, town hall meetings, and community outreach across states in the region. They stressed the need for eligible citizens to register, collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and stay informed about electoral guidelines. The youths believe that informed participation will strengthen democracy and improve governance outcomes.

The group also called on political stakeholders and electoral authorities to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections in 2027. They noted that while mobilisation is important, confidence in the electoral system is equally critical. By working together, they said, the region can set an example for peaceful and responsible civic engagement.

Observers say the initiative reflects growing political consciousness among young Nigerians. As preparations for 2027 gradually gather pace, youth-led campaigns like this could play a decisive role in increasing voter turnout and influencing national conversations about leadership and accountability.
