Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has denied any involvement in the abduction of Nigerian social media critic Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, he stated that he had no prior knowledge of the activist before news of his disappearance surfaced.
El-Rufai explained that he only became aware of Dadiyata after the family reported his abduction to the police. He maintained that the critic was not known for targeting the Kaduna State government but was instead a vocal critic of the Kano State administration.
According to the former governor, information available to him suggested that individuals allegedly involved in the incident may have come from outside Kaduna. He referenced claims that a police officer posted from Kano to Ekiti reportedly admitted being part of a team sent to abduct Dadiyata.
Dadiyata was reportedly taken from his residence in Barnawa, Kaduna State, in August 2019. The case has remained a subject of public interest, with calls for clarity and justice continuing over the years. El-Rufai reiterated that the matter was not connected to the Kaduna State government.
