Taraba State is grappling with a severe outbreak of Lassa fever, which has reportedly claimed 15 lives, according to health authorities. The outbreak has raised concerns among residents and prompted urgent action by the state Ministry of Health to contain the spread.
Officials have confirmed that both urban and rural communities in the state are affected. They have urged residents to adhere to strict hygiene practices, avoid contact with rodents, and seek medical attention immediately if symptoms such as fever, weakness, or bleeding appear.
The Taraba State Government has activated emergency response teams and is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to track cases, treat patients, and prevent further fatalities. Public awareness campaigns are also being intensified to educate people about the dangers and prevention of the virus.
Health experts emphasize that Lassa fever spreads through contact with urine or feces of infected rodents and can also be transmitted between humans in close contact. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and call on citizens to cooperate with medical and governmental directives to curb the outbreak.
