The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially unveiled the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election, reaffirming its preparedness to deliver credible and transparent polls.
INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, announced the schedule during a press conference held Friday in Abuja, assuring stakeholders of the Commission’s commitment to conducting elections in strict compliance with the law.
According to the approved timetable, Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on February 20, 2027, while Governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
Campaign activities for Presidential and National Assembly candidates will commence on November 18, 2026, and conclude on February 19, 2027—24 hours before Election Day. Campaigns for Governorship and State Assembly elections will run from December 15, 2026, to March 5, 2027.
The Commission also announced that Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will begin in April 2026 and end in January 2027, allowing eligible Nigerians ample time to register or update their voter information.
Political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026. The submission of candidates’ lists to the Commission will take place from October 1 to October 31, 2026, while the final list of candidates will be published on November 15, 2026.
INEC noted that the timetable was finalized despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly.
Reiterating the Commission’s commitment to credible, free, and fair elections, Amupitan assured Nigerians and the international community of INEC’s readiness to conduct the 2027 General Election, as well as all scheduled off-cycle elections, in accordance with the law.
