The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has rejected claims made by Mr. Igwe Sunday Ohahuru, who reportedly presented himself as the party’s Chairman in Ikwerre Local Government Area. In a statement released by the state leadership, the party described the claim as false and misleading, stressing that the individual is not recognised within its structure.
According to Chief Leader Sampson, the State Chairman of ADC in Rivers, Mr. Ohahuru is not even a registered member of the party and therefore has no authority to speak on its behalf. The party made it clear that the officially recognised Chairman in Ikwerre LGA is Mr. Temple Chinedu Egwenike, whose position is said to be constitutionally valid and fully supported by the party hierarchy.
The Rivers ADC further alleged that the situation appears to be part of a broader attempt by political infiltrators to create confusion and weaken the party’s structure in the state. The leadership expressed concerns about possible efforts to secure questionable court orders to give legitimacy to what it described as irregular actions. It called on the judiciary to remain neutral and avoid being drawn into partisan politics.
The party also urged security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force, to closely monitor the matter to prevent any breakdown of law and order. While reaffirming its commitment to peaceful political engagement, the ADC encouraged its members and supporters to remain calm, obey the law, and take part in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise as it continues to strengthen its presence across all 23 local government areas in Rivers State.
