Electoral Act Amendment firmly anchored on Supreme Court judgment – Jimoh Ibrahim

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim has said that the proposed amendment to the Electoral Act is firmly rooted in existing judgments of the Supreme Court. According to him, the changes being considered by lawmakers are not arbitrary but are guided by legal interpretations already established by the nation’s highest court.

The senator explained that the Supreme Court has, in previous rulings, provided clarity on how election processes should be conducted. He noted that the National Assembly is simply aligning the Electoral Act with these judicial decisions to avoid confusion and conflicting interpretations during elections.

Jimoh Ibrahim stressed that grounding the amendment in Supreme Court judgments would strengthen Nigeria’s electoral framework. He argued that a clear legal foundation would promote stability, reduce post-election disputes, and improve confidence in the democratic process.

He urged Nigerians to view the amendment as a legal necessity rather than a political agenda. According to the lawmaker, respecting the authority of the Supreme Court is essential for sustaining democracy and ensuring that elections are conducted within the bounds of the law.
