The Lagos State Government has announced a partial closure of sections of the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway to allow urgent rehabilitation work by the Federal Ministry of Works. The repairs will focus on the stretch between U-Turn Bus Stop and Sango Tollgate and are set to last from February 11 to March 11, 2026.
The rehabilitation will be carried out in two phases to minimize traffic disruptions. The first phase will target the Abeokuta-bound lanes from U-Turn Bus Stop to Sango Tollgate, lasting three weeks. Traffic in this direction will be temporarily diverted to a single lane approximately 20 metres from the construction area, while the Lagos-bound lanes will remain open.
For the second phase, the Lagos-bound carriageway, covering Obadeyi Bus Stop to Ekoro Junction, will undergo repairs. Traffic moving toward Lagos will be diverted similarly, with vehicles redirected to completed sections as work progresses. Motorists traveling to Abeokuta are expected to have relatively smooth movement during this period.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, urged drivers to plan ahead, obey traffic signs, and cooperate with officials deployed along the corridor. He emphasized that the project aims to enhance road safety and called for patience and understanding from road users during the construction period.
