The Green Future Party (GFP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of unfairly refusing to register the party despite allegedly meeting all required conditions. The party says the action could affect its plans ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Monday, the Interim National Chairman of the party, Adefolaseye Adebayo, said INEC did not follow its own rules. According to him, the party complied with every guideline issued by the electoral body and even passed physical verification carried out by INEC officials.
Adebayo explained that GFP was among several political groups that applied for registration between 2025 and 2026, alongside others such as the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) and the Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA). However, while some parties progressed in the process, GFP was still not granted registration as of February 2026, even after the legally required 60-day review period had passed.
The GFP chairman suggested that political interests may be behind INEC’s decision. He noted that the party satisfied all conditions, including citizenship requirements for members and compliance with rules on party symbols and identity. He insisted that INEC’s sudden claim of non-compliance was unjust and contrary to earlier assurances given to the party.
