Survivors of deadly attacks on Worro and Nukku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have made an emotional appeal for the release of their abducted wives and children as the Ramadan fasting season draws near. The residents spoke during a visit by the senator representing Kwara North, Sadiq Umar, who toured the affected villages on Sunday.
The victims said the abduction of women and children has left many households helpless, especially with no one to handle basic domestic needs during the fasting period. They revealed that despite the scale of the attacks, which reportedly claimed over 170 lives and led to the abduction of more than 100 people, the attackers have not contacted families or demanded ransom.
Community leaders disclosed that many residents are still displaced, with homes destroyed and families forced to take shelter with relatives or flee the area entirely. The village head of Worro, Alhaji Umar Bio Salihu, explained that the destruction of electricity infrastructure has also cut off access to clean water, worsening living conditions. He said the community relied on a generator donated by the senator just to pump water, even during mass burials.
Senator Sadiq Umar, who visited the mass gravesite and inspected the damage, assured residents that efforts were underway to restore peace and rebuild the communities. He called on the Federal Government to urgently fix roads in the area and strengthen security, warning that poor access delays emergency response. The senator also distributed relief materials and encouraged residents to support security agencies with timely information to prevent further attacks.
