Plateau State political landscape has witnessed a major shift as several gubernatorial candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) have officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). The move, announced by APC chieftain Yilwatda, is seen as a boost to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Yilwatda described the defections as a sign of growing confidence in the APC, noting that the incoming politicians recognize the party’s strength and vision for Plateau. He added that the move would consolidate APC’s influence across the state and create a more unified platform for development initiatives.
The political realignment has stirred reactions across Plateau, with opposition parties expressing concern over the wave of defections. Observers note that the trend could significantly affect the electoral balance in the state, giving the APC a clear advantage ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial polls.
The APC has welcomed the new members with open arms, promising that their expertise and followership would strengthen party structures at all levels. Party officials emphasized that inclusivity and unity remain central to APC’s growth strategy in Plateau and beyond.
