The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state government of deliberately misrepresenting facts over federal allocations meant for reinstated local government chairmen and councillors. The opposition party claimed the alleged distortion was aimed at confusing residents and weakening the authority of the reinstated council officials.
In a statement released on Saturday, the APC criticised comments made by the Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, during a radio programme. According to the party, the discussion was poorly handled and allegedly tilted to favour the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The APC argued that what should have been a neutral public discussion was instead used to promote the government’s political position.
The APC also raised concerns over repeated attacks on federal officials, including the Attorney-General of the Federation and a former Osun governor, describing such comments as capable of increasing political tension. The party insisted that court judgments on local government administration remain valid and binding until overturned, urging the state government to respect judicial decisions and avoid inflammatory statements.
Responding, Commissioner Kolapo Alimi dismissed the APC’s claims, insisting the party was misinterpreting the law. He argued that the Nigerian Bar Association’s position on the matter should be respected above other legal opinions, accusing the APC of failing to address allegations of misuse of public funds. Alimi maintained that the funds in question were meant for the people and not political office holders, stressing that there was no misinformation in the government’s position.
