Our leaders respected abroad, insulted by Nigerians — First Lady Remi Tinubu

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to citizens to show more respect and understanding toward the country’s leaders, especially in public discussions. She warned that constant criticism, insults, and hateful comments—mostly on social media—are damaging national unity and progress.

In a message shared on her official Facebook page on Friday night, Mrs Tinubu noted that many Nigerian leaders receive recognition and honor outside the country but are often harshly judged at home. According to her, this situation is fueled by misinformation, political propaganda, and narratives deliberately spread to create anger and division among citizens.

The First Lady strongly criticized the growing trend of online bullying and public shaming of leaders. She said many people focus only on leaders’ mistakes, using them as tools for mockery and abuse rather than offering constructive criticism or solutions that could help the nation move forward.

She emphasized that Nigeria can only succeed when citizens and leaders work together in an atmosphere of unity, love, and shared responsibility. Mrs Tinubu urged Nigerians to reject hate-driven narratives and instead support efforts aimed at building a stronger and more united country.
