Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a Rivers State chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has demanded the resignation of the Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Alausa, over the publication of a new history book for Junior Secondary School 1 students titled Living History. Eze criticized the book for omitting the Igbo ethnic group and called it “divisive, full of deceit” and a deliberate attempt to promote hatred against the Igbos. He urged South-East governors to reject the book and push for its immediate removal.
The APC leader condemned the author, J.M. Itsekuke, for publishing a biased version of Nigeria’s history. “How could a Nigerian write a history book without mentioning the Igbos, unless they are an ethnic nationalist?” Eze questioned. He expressed concern that the book is listed in the National Library of Nigeria, yet some South-East governors remain silent despite what he described as a national shame promoted by the federal government.
Eze called for the arrest and prosecution of the author and insisted that the Education Minister has lost the moral right to remain in office for approving the publication. He said the book was designed to provoke the Igbo people and accused the Tinubu administration of neglecting the challenges facing Igbos. According to him, this incident exposes a broader policy bias against the Igbo community.
He urged South-East governors to put politics aside and take action by demanding accountability and prosecution for the author. Eze stressed that the book should be removed from schools immediately to prevent the promotion of ethnic hatred and misinformation among students.
