Former England striker Michael Owen has played down Arsenal’s chances of winning the Quadruple this season, despite their strong form across competitions. According to Owen, while the Gunners have been impressive so far, winning all four major trophies will be extremely difficult.
Arsenal recently booked a place in the Carabao Cup final after defeating Chelsea 4-2 on aggregate in the semi-finals. Mikel Arteta’s side are also in a commanding position in the Premier League, sitting six points clear at the top of the table, and they topped their UEFA Champions League group with a perfect record.
The Gunners remain active in the FA Cup and are set to face Wigan Athletic in the fourth round. However, Owen believes the FA Cup will be tougher than expected, as many clubs will focus heavily on the competition in a bid to rescue their season. This, he said, means Arsenal will face strong opposition in every round.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Owen added that while Arsenal could realistically win the league and possibly the Carabao Cup, the Champions League is too unpredictable to call. He concluded that the difficulty of competing at the highest level on multiple fronts makes winning the Quadruple highly unlikely.
