Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has taken strong action following the killing of four residents of Okporojo village in Oso Edda community. During a visit to the affected area, the governor condemned the attack, which involved killings, destruction of homes, and abductions allegedly linked to suspected warlords from Amasiri community. He described the incident as a sad outcome of a long-standing boundary dispute that failed despite earlier peace efforts.
To prevent further violence, Governor Nwifuru announced sweeping sanctions against Amasiri community. These include dissolving the Amasiri Development Union executive, withdrawing official recognition from the traditional ruler, removing all village heads, and sacking government appointees from the area. The governor said the measures were necessary to restore order and show that the government would not tolerate actions that threaten peace.
Addressing residents of Okporojo, the governor urged calm and promised lasting peace and support. He expressed concern over the level of destruction in the community and pledged to return within a year to show progress in security and development. He also praised security agencies for their efforts, noting that officers went through difficult terrain to track down those responsible for the attack.
Governor Nwifuru stressed that his administration would not take sides in communal disputes and warned that violence would only worsen the situation. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to justice and public safety, insisting that no group would be protected if found guilty of actions that endanger lives. Several officials from Amasiri, including commissioners, traditional leaders, and town union executives, were affected by the decision.
