Kano: Kwankwasiyya structure won’t be as formidable as in 2023 – APC chieftain

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Taofiq Raimi, has said the Kwankwasiyya political structure in Kano State will no longer be as powerful as it was during the 2023 general elections. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Raimi noted that political realities in the state have changed, reducing the influence the movement once enjoyed.

Raimi recalled that in the 2023 governorship election, the margin between the votes scored by the APC candidate and Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was very slim. According to him, this showed that the APC already had strong support in Kano, even before recent political realignments. He stressed that the party has never underestimated its opponents but believes the balance of power has shifted.

The APC chieftain added that with Governor Abba Yusuf now aligning with the APC, the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections have improved significantly. He explained that combining the APC’s existing support base with the political influence and followers Yusuf brings would make the ruling party stronger and more united going forward.

Raimi further stated that the APC is working to accommodate new entrants while strengthening its internal structures. While acknowledging that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains relevant, he maintained that it will not be as formidable as it was in 2023. According to him, political dynamics in Kano are evolving, and the APC is positioning itself to benefit from these changes ahead of the next election cycle.
