Osun govt dismisses APC demand over LG funds

The Osun State Government has dismissed a demand by a group claiming to be local government vice chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), asking for an account of council funds released over the past year. The group, known as the Forum of Local Government Vice Chairmen, alleged that councils received over ₦200 billion between December 2023 and January 2025 without clear evidence of projects to match the allocations.

Speaking through its chairman, Victor Fatoki, the forum accused the state government of failing to transparently manage the funds. The group pointed to several council areas, including Atakunmosa East, Ila, Ifedayo, Boluwaduro, and Obokun, where it said there were few visible projects despite what it described as large inflows of money. It called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to provide a detailed breakdown of how the funds were spent.

The state government quickly rejected the claims, saying it does not recognize the forum as a lawful body. The governor’s deputy spokesperson, Oladele Bamiji, stated that there is no legally recognized association of vice chairmen elected on a party basis in Osun State. He warned that the activities of the group could create confusion and disturb public order if allowed to continue.

Governor Adeleke also questioned the legitimacy of those presenting themselves as vice chairmen, noting that local government elections in the state are still subjects of legal disputes. He stressed that unknown or disputed entities cannot demand accountability without legal standing. The development comes amid an ongoing court battle between the Osun State Government and the APC over control of local councils and their finances, a situation that has affected full local government operations since early 2025.
