Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, has once again resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His latest move marks another major shift in his long political journey and has stirred fresh conversations within Nigeria’s opposition space.
Duke, who was once a prominent figure in the PDP, explained that his decision was driven by deep concerns about the party’s direction and internal challenges. He said the ADC offers a more credible platform to pursue national unity, good governance, and political reform ahead of future elections.
Supporters of the ADC have welcomed Duke’s entry, describing it as a boost to the party’s growing profile. Party leaders believe his experience as a former governor and presidential aspirant will strengthen their structure and appeal to voters seeking alternatives to the dominant political parties.
Political analysts say Duke’s defection highlights the wider crisis within the PDP, as key figures continue to exit the party. With 2027 on the horizon, his move to the ADC is seen as part of ongoing realignments that could reshape Nigeria’s opposition politics in the coming years.
