A Federal High Court in Ibadan has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in the city on November 15, 2025. The court ruled that the convention was invalid and barred members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from presenting themselves as the party’s national officers.
The judgement recognised the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the only legitimate NWC of the PDP, pending the conduct of a valid national convention. This decision effectively strengthens the camp aligned with former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Legal experts note that the ruling is a significant development in the ongoing leadership crisis within the PDP, which has seen multiple factions claim authority over the party’s affairs. The court emphasised adherence to party rules and proper procedures in conducting national conventions.
The nullification adds a new twist to the party’s internal struggles ahead of the 2027 elections, signalling that only recognised committees can make official party decisions until a lawful convention is held. Further developments are expected as stakeholders respond to the judgement.
