The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Olusola Kehinde, has revealed that 5,000 students of the institution have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), receiving a total of N840 million. He made this disclosure on Wednesday during a news conference ahead of FUNAAB’s 33rd convocation ceremony in Abeokuta.
Prof. Kehinde assured that the university maintained transparency in disbursing the loans, contrary to reports from other institutions where students alleged delays or non-disbursement. He explained that NELFUND transfers the funds directly into the university’s Treasury Single Account (TSA), and students are reimbursed fully according to their loan applications, with no deductions.
The Vice Chancellor added that the funds have significantly supported both the institution and its students, allowing them to focus on their academic pursuits. He also announced that FUNAAB will be graduating 4,141 students, including 104 First Class Honours, 1,771 Second-Class Upper, 1,896 Second-Class Lower, 285 Third Class, and 2 Pass degrees. Additionally, 41 students earned the Veterinary Medicine degree, and 69 completed Part-time degree programs.
Prof. Kehinde highlighted Miss Isiamo Chinyere from the Department of Food Science and Technology as the overall best graduating student with a CGPA of 4.85, praising all graduands for their dedication and academic achievements.
