Impeachment: Fubara weak if Wike is controlling Rivers Assembly – Lere Olayinka

A media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has said Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, would be politically weak if he allows another person to control the state House of Assembly. Olayinka made the comment while speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, reacting to ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.

According to Olayinka, a sitting governor should naturally have control over the political structures within his state, including the legislature. He argued that if a minister based in Abuja is able to influence the majority of lawmakers in Rivers State, then something is fundamentally wrong with the governor’s grip on power. He stressed that political authority should reflect where real strength lies.

Olayinka further claimed that what politicians say publicly often differs from what happens behind the scenes. He suggested that Governor Fubara is aware of the true situation but that the reality is not always openly discussed. In his view, allowing external influence over the Assembly reflects poor political management and lack of firm leadership.

The Wike aide concluded by saying that any governor who cannot control structures in his own state risks being overshadowed by stronger political figures. He added that politics is about strength and influence, and if another individual dominates a governor’s space, it shows who truly holds power.
