A group of activists has accused Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, of bearing responsibility for the killing of Igbo youths in Onitsha, allegedly by what they described as “external forces.” The activists warned that the blood of the slain youths would be on the governor’s hands if urgent action is not taken to protect residents.
In a strongly worded statement, the group claimed that insecurity in Onitsha has worsened, with repeated incidents of violence targeting young people. They alleged that the continued presence and activities of armed outsiders in the area point to a failure of leadership and effective security coordination by the state government.
The activists criticised what they called a heavy-handed approach to governance, accusing Soludo of acting like a dictator while ignoring the fears and cries of the people. According to them, the government has focused more on enforcing policies than on ensuring the safety of citizens, especially vulnerable youths.
They called on the Anambra State Government to urgently review its security strategy, engage community leaders, and ensure that those responsible for the killings are identified and prosecuted. The group warned that silence or inaction could further deepen tension and mistrust between the government and the people.
