The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), cautioning them against blocking the gates of government offices as the industrial dispute continues.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Wike said any worker who disobeys the law by preventing access to official premises would face serious consequences. He stressed that the government would no longer tolerate actions he described as open defiance of lawful authority, adding that erring workers would be dealt with decisively.
According to the minister, workers have been given a short grace period to return to their duties. He warned that from the next day, sanctions would be enforced against those who fail to resume work or attempt to disrupt activities at government offices. Wike stated that anyone caught blocking gates would be singled out and used as an example, insisting that the law must be allowed to take its full course.
The warning follows an order by the National Industrial Court in Abuja, which granted an interlocutory injunction compelling FCTA workers, under the Joint Union Action Committee, to suspend their strike. Despite this ruling, some workers insisted they were no longer officially on strike but would remain at home until their demands are addressed, deepening the standoff between the administration and its workforce.
