Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said the current federal administration has performed far below expectations, especially in the areas of security and governance. Speaking during an interview on ARISE TV Prime Time, El-Rufai said the level of decline in the country surprised him, adding that he never imagined things would get this bad during the election period.
He raised serious concerns about public finance management, alleging that about $100 billion is deducted monthly from the Federation Account without approval from the National Assembly or state assemblies. El-Rufai stressed that since part of the funds belongs to states, any spending must be properly approved by law. According to him, using such funds without appropriation is unconstitutional.
The former governor said the alleged deductions have gone on for over 15 months, amounting to about $1.5 trillion, and described the situation as an impeachable offence. He questioned where the money has gone and what it is being used for, insisting that Nigerians deserve clear answers and accountability from the government.
El-Rufai also linked the spending to the worsening insecurity across the country. He questioned why violence continues to rise despite the huge sums allegedly spent on security, and why communities are now being told to protect themselves. He concluded by saying that, based on current realities, the administration has performed worse than many Nigerians expected.
