Rivers: APC concludes ward congresses ahead of bye-elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has completed its ward congresses in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas, as preparations intensify for the February 21 bye-elections. The congresses were held to elect delegates who will participate in the party’s primaries for vacant seats in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

In Ahoada East State Constituency II, the exercise was supervised by a seven-member APC congress committee led by Smart Iheanazo, with members of the party’s appeal committee present. The committee visited all six wards in the constituency to ensure that the process followed party guidelines. Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also monitored the exercise to ensure transparency.

At the end of the congress in Ahoada East, five delegates emerged from each ward. A similar process was conducted in Khana Local Government Area, where the selection of delegates followed APC rules and electoral procedures. The congress in Khana was overseen by the party’s Delegate Congress and Primary Election Committee chaired by Oyoala Peter.

INEC officials, alongside security agencies such as the DSS and the Nigeria Police, were on ground in Khana to maintain order. As in Ahoada East, five delegates were elected from each ward. Party leaders described the congresses as peaceful and well-organised, expressing confidence that the outcome will strengthen the APC’s chances in the upcoming bye-elections.
