The Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has handed down heavy sanctions to Enyimba FC following incidents that occurred during one of the club’s recent league matches. The Aba-based side has been fined ₦5 million and ordered to play their next three home games without fans in attendance.
In a statement released by the league organisers, the punishment was linked to Enyimba’s failure to control the conduct of supporters during the affected fixture. The NPFL noted that the behaviour of fans breached league rules, forcing the organisers to act in order to protect match officials, players and the integrity of the competition.
According to the league, the decision is part of broader efforts to enforce discipline and ensure safety across all match venues. The NPFL stressed that clubs must take full responsibility for crowd control, warning that repeated violations could attract even stiffer penalties, including points deductions.
Enyimba are expected to comply fully with the ruling, including payment of the fine and enforcement of closed-door matches at the Enyimba International Stadium. The league also urged club officials to work closely with security agencies and supporters’ groups to prevent similar incidents in the future.
