The United States House Committee on Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the recent abduction of worshippers from churches in Kaduna State, warning that attacks against Christians in Nigeria will not be tolerated. The lawmakers reacted to reports that gunmen stormed three churches in Kajuru Local Government Area and kidnapped over 100 people during worship.
According to reports, the attack sparked public outrage after initial denials by the Kaduna State Government and the Nigeria Police Force. The police later confirmed that the abductions did take place and said security operatives had been deployed to rescue the victims and restore calm in the affected communities.
In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs described the incident as a serious violation of human rights. The committee stated that armed groups attacked churches and abducted more than 160 Christians, stressing that the situation demands urgent international attention.
The US lawmakers also referenced President Donald Trump’s long-standing position on protecting religious freedom, saying the United States cannot remain silent while innocent people are targeted. They called on Nigerian authorities to take decisive action to secure the release of those abducted and to prevent further attacks on religious communities.
