Resign before defecting to APC – NNPP faction to Gov Yusuf

The Boniface Aniebonam-led faction of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called on Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to formally resign from the party if he intends to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Tuesday, the faction’s Kano State Chairman, Senator Masu’d el Jilbreen Doguwa, stressed that the governor remains a bona fide NNPP member and that no official resignation letter has been submitted to the party.

Doguwa emphasized that due process must be followed, saying, “He should formally submit a resignation letter to the NNPP chairman at his ward level, which we are yet to receive.” The faction maintains that respecting party protocols is essential, and any member wishing to leave must do so officially.

The NNPP faction also clarified the party’s leadership, stating that former Kano State Governor and NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is no longer the national leader. Doguwa cited three court judgments from Abuja and Abia High Courts affirming their leadership and the party’s ownership structure. According to him, Kwankwaso ceased to be a major stakeholder after the 2023 elections.

Finally, Doguwa noted that the Kano State NNPP remains open to members who wish to retain individual membership but will not accept those seeking to operate under the Kwankwasiyya Movement. The party reiterated its commitment to internal discipline and adherence to established legal and procedural frameworks.
