A 2026 governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Kayode Olubunmi Ojo, has accused security agencies and the state government of targeting his supporters. In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ojo claimed that his loyalists are facing intimidation, unlawful arrests, prolonged detention, and denial of their entitlements because of their political affiliation.
According to him, several supporters across the state have allegedly been harassed, including individuals from Ado Ekiti, Emure Ekiti, Otun Ekiti, Ikere Ekiti, and Ikoro Ekiti. He further alleged that one of his supporters, Akogun Abayomi, also known as Lustay, was secretly detained on January 1 without a warrant and denied access to lawyers, family members, and medication. Ojo accused some police officers of abusing their powers for political purposes.
The APC aspirant also claimed that former political office holders believed to be aligned with him are being denied their legitimate allowances. He mentioned names such as Bamidele Gbayigi, Omotehinse Abraham, Adelodun Bosede, and Ogunjobi Busayo, alleging that the actions were part of a wider attempt to weaken his political base ahead of the governorship race.
The allegations come amid rising tension within the Ekiti APC following the party’s governorship primary, which reportedly cleared Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the consensus candidate after the disqualification of Ojo and another aspirant. While supporters of the disqualified aspirants have continued to complain of intimidation, the Ekiti State Police Command had not responded to the claims as of the time of filing this report.
