The last six abductees kidnapped from a church in Aiyetoro-Kiri, Bunu land, Kogi State, have been released, bringing an end to weeks of tension and fear in the community. The Aiyetoro-Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA) confirmed the development on Wednesday, noting that the release followed several rounds of negotiations and ransom payments.
The ordeal began on December 14, 2025, when suspected bandits attacked a branch of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, killing at least one person and abducting several parishioners. Over the following weeks, victims were freed in batches, with seven released on January 1, three on January 12, fourteen on January 13, and the final six most recently.
The AKBDA praised God for the safe return of all the abductees and expressed gratitude to families, community members, and supporters for their patience and resilience during the crisis. The community described the incident as a traumatic experience but welcomed the relief that comes with the full release of the victims.
Officials continue to call for stronger security measures in the area to prevent future attacks and to protect residents and places of worship. The release of all the abductees brings hope for peace and recovery in Aiyetoro-Kiri.
