US Sokoto Bombing: Kanu’s lawyer blasts Nigerian govt for linking intel to Onitsha trader

Aloy Ejimakor, legal consultant to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has criticized the Nigerian government over reports linking United States airstrikes in Sokoto State to intelligence allegedly provided by an Onitsha-based screwdriver trader. Ejimakor described the claim as a national embarrassment that has damaged Nigeria’s image.

His reaction followed a report by The New York Times, which suggested that the intelligence leading to the airstrikes was traced to a civilian identified as Emeka, an Onitsha trader and operator of a small NGO. The report alleged that the individual relied on Google searches and made exaggerated claims about deaths, which were later used as part of the intelligence trail.

Ejimakor pointed out that the Nigerian government had earlier taken credit for supplying the intelligence used for the US operation. He said the sudden shift in narrative, now blaming a private individual, exposed serious inconsistencies and raised questions about the government’s credibility on the matter.

Posting on X, the IPOB leader’s lawyer said it was troubling that the government appeared to contradict itself, calling the situation a public embarrassment. He urged authorities to clarify their position and handle sensitive security matters with greater responsibility to avoid further damage to national reputation.
