Only invisible wall of justice can save Nigeria – Shehu tells Defence Minister Musa

Public affairs analyst Mahdi Shehu has criticised Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, over his renewed call for a physical wall along Nigeria’s borders to curb terrorism and cross-border crime. Shehu argued that building concrete walls is not the solution to Nigeria’s deep security challenges.

Reacting in a post shared on X, Shehu said Nigeria can only be saved by what he described as an “invisible wall of justice and equity.” According to him, fairness, good governance, and equal treatment of citizens are more effective than physical barriers in preventing national breakdown and insecurity.

Shehu described the border wall proposal as outdated and out of touch with modern realities. He noted that history has shown that famous walls around the world failed to guarantee lasting peace or security. He also questioned the feasibility of building walls along Nigeria’s long and porous borders, especially considering the instability in neighbouring countries.

The analyst further stressed that modern warfare has moved beyond physical structures. He said today’s security battles depend more on intelligence gathering, technology, and digital surveillance. Shehu added that Nigeria should invest in modern security systems rather than large construction projects, which he suggested may only increase government spending without solving the real problem.
