The trial of suspected Ansaru members has been stalled after the Department of State Services (DSS) denied a defense lawyer access to their client. This development caused an unexpected delay in the ongoing court proceedings.
According to reports, the lawyer was scheduled to meet with the suspects ahead of the trial session but was prevented from doing so by DSS officials. The denial has raised concerns about the suspects’ right to proper legal representation.
The court had to adjourn the proceedings until the matter of access is resolved. Legal experts note that such delays, while procedural, can impact the timeline and progress of high-profile terrorism trials in the country.
The defense team has called for immediate intervention to ensure their client can receive full legal counsel. The DSS has yet to issue a statement explaining why access was blocked, and the next court session is expected to address this issue.
