Nigeria’s daily fuel consumption has increased significantly, reaching about 63.7 million litres per day. This rise reflects growing demand across the country, driven by transportation needs, power generation, and increased economic activity in major cities.
Industry data shows that fuel use remains high due to unreliable electricity supply, forcing households and businesses to depend heavily on petrol and diesel generators. Commercial transport operators also consume large volumes daily, adding to the overall demand.
Experts say population growth and expanding urban centres have further pushed fuel consumption upward. As more people rely on private vehicles and small businesses continue to operate on fuel-powered equipment, daily usage keeps rising despite high fuel prices.
The growing fuel demand has raised concerns about supply sustainability and pricing. Analysts believe that boosting local refining capacity and improving power infrastructure will be critical to reducing fuel pressure and ensuring stable supply for Nigerians in the long run.
