Former media aide to late President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has called on the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) to retain Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle despite the team’s loss to Morocco. Ahmad highlighted Chelle’s deep understanding of the team’s technical dynamics as a reason for his continued appointment.
On social media platform X, Ahmad praised Chelle’s work, stressing that with proper support, the coach can help Nigeria dominate African football in future competitions. He urged the NFF to maintain confidence in Chelle to build long-term success for the Super Eagles.
The African Cup of Nations match between Nigeria and Morocco ended goalless after extra time and was ultimately decided by penalties, with Morocco winning 4-2. Despite the setback, Ahmad believes the loss should not overshadow Chelle’s contributions to the team’s development.
He concluded that retaining Chelle is crucial for continuity and technical stability, noting that the coach’s strategies have already shown promise in enhancing the Super Eagles’ performance on the continental stage.
