Troops successfully rescued 18 passengers who were kidnapped by sea pirates off the coast of Cameroon. The victims were on a commercial boat when armed pirates attacked, causing panic among passengers and crew. Security forces quickly responded to the distress call, launching a rescue operation to free the hostages.
The operation, conducted by naval and marine units, ensured the safe recovery of all passengers without any reported casualties. Authorities confirmed that the pirates were apprehended during the raid and are now in custody, pending further investigation.
Officials said the incident underscores the persistent threat of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea and emphasized the need for increased maritime security. The rescued passengers were immediately provided with medical attention and essential support following their ordeal.
Troop commanders urged shipping companies and local boat operators to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity at sea. They also reassured the public that ongoing patrols and coordinated efforts with regional partners are in place to prevent future attacks.
