EFCC: N5.78b case against Ex-Kwara Gov, finance commissioner stalled

The trial over the alleged N5.78 billion fraud involving a former Kwara State governor and his finance commissioner has stalled, following fresh delays at the court. The case, being handled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has drawn attention because of the large sum involved and the public offices of those accused.

Court proceedings could not move forward after issues relating to legal filings and the absence of key parties prevented the matter from being heard. Lawyers on both sides exchanged preliminary documents, but the judge was unable to take substantial arguments, leading to an adjournment.

The EFCC insists it is ready to prosecute the case and is committed to seeing it through to conclusion. The anti-graft agency said it remains focused on fighting corruption and recovering public funds allegedly misused by public officials.

Meanwhile, observers say the repeated delays reflect wider concerns about how long high-profile corruption cases take in Nigeria’s judicial system. Many Nigerians are calling for faster trials to strengthen public confidence in accountability and the rule of law.
