As the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State approaches, the political camp of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, is facing growing internal problems. Supporters who once worked closely together are now divided, mainly because of an ongoing court case that is distracting the camp and slowing down political mobilisation across the state.
Sources within the political circle say the legal battle has weakened confidence in Malami’s ambition. Many party members are unsure whether he will be free to campaign fully or even contest at all, and this uncertainty has caused some supporters to drift away or sit on the fence while waiting for clarity.
The situation has also affected Malami’s grassroots structure. Without a clear direction, local coordinators and ward leaders are reportedly losing motivation, while rival aspirants are taking advantage of the confusion to strengthen their own networks ahead of the primaries.
Although Malami remains a well-known political figure in Kebbi, analysts believe time is no longer on his side. Unless the court matter is resolved quickly and his team regains unity, his 2027 governorship ambition may continue to struggle.
