Petrol marketers signal cheaper fuel price in Nigeria, await Dangote Refinery action

Nigerian petroleum marketers have signaled plans to lower petrol prices nationwide, with premium motor spirit potentially selling near N739 per liter. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) said members would benefit from direct supply by Dangote Refinery at N699 per liter starting January 2026.

IPMAN President Abubakar Maigandi told DAILY POST that once Dangote Refinery begins direct deliveries, marketers will dispense petrol at a maximum of N750 per liter, including transport costs. The move is expected to reduce queues and make cheaper fuel accessible to more Nigerians.

The price reduction comes amid ongoing competition in the downstream sector. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) recently set its petrol price at N815 per liter in Abuja, while Dangote-backed filling stations sell at N739, highlighting a price gap across the market.

Analysts say the price war triggered by Dangote Refinery’s aggressive pricing could reshape the fuel market in Nigeria. Marketers are poised to adjust their prices quickly once direct supply begins, potentially easing the financial burden on motorists nationwide.
