Bandits attack Katsina community, abduct more than 20 villagers

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked Unguwar Daudu community in Dukke ward, Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, leaving two people injured and more than 20 villagers abducted. The attack reportedly happened late on Sunday night when residents were already indoors, throwing the community into panic and fear.

The incident was reported on Monday by Bakatsine, a journalist known for tracking insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest. He noted that the attackers moved swiftly through the village, shooting sporadically and forcing several people out of their homes before fleeing with their captives. The injured victims are currently receiving treatment, while families of the abducted villagers are anxiously waiting for news about their loved ones.

The attack has raised fresh questions about the effectiveness of the peace agreements earlier reached between the government and armed groups in parts of Katsina State. Many residents now feel exposed and unprotected, as violent incidents continue to occur despite repeated assurances of improved security.

Community members are calling on the government and security agencies to strengthen patrols, improve intelligence gathering, and respond faster to distress calls. They say stronger protection is urgently needed to prevent further attacks and to restore confidence among people living in vulnerable rural areas.
