Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi has shared an emotional account of his experience under former Nigeria coach José Peseiro during a major tournament period. Onyemaechi said he had to personally plead with the coach for opportunities, even when he felt he was fit, ready, and working hard in training.
Speaking in an interview, the Boavista left-back explained that it was a difficult moment in his career because he felt overlooked despite giving his best for the national team. He described the situation as mentally draining, especially for a player who only wanted to serve his country and prove his value on the pitch.
Onyemaechi added that the experience taught him patience and resilience, saying it made him stronger as a professional. He noted that setbacks like this are part of football and that players must learn how to stay focused even when things do not go their way.
The defender now hopes for a brighter future with the Super Eagles under the new technical direction, expressing confidence that merit and performance will determine selection going forward. He says he remains committed to giving his all whenever he is called upon to represent Nigeria.
