Army dismisses viral claims of unpaid allowances, extortion by troops in Ogun

The Nigerian Army has dismissed viral claims suggesting that troops stationed in Ogun State are facing unpaid allowances and engaging in extortion. The Army described these reports as “false, misleading, and damaging” to the reputation of its personnel.

In a statement, the Army emphasized that all allowances and entitlements due to officers and soldiers are regularly processed and disbursed. It further clarified that any allegations of misconduct or extortion are being propagated without evidence and aim to misinform the public.

The military urged Nigerians to disregard social media posts making such claims and called for responsible reporting. According to the Army, soldiers continue to carry out their duties professionally, including maintaining security and protecting lives and property in Ogun State.

The statement also highlighted that any legitimate concerns regarding troops’ welfare should follow official channels. The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, discipline, and ensuring that its personnel receive all due benefits.
