Former Senator and human rights activist Shehu Sani has reacted to the recent decision by Mali and Burkina Faso to restrict visa issuance to US nationals. In a post on social media, Sani described the move as an irrational policy, noting that “nobody has a monopoly of madness.”
Sani criticized the two countries for what he called an overreaction that could harm diplomatic and economic relations. He emphasized that such actions create unnecessary tension and affect ordinary citizens who rely on international travel for work, education, and business.
He also urged governments to adopt measured and constructive approaches to foreign policy, highlighting that retaliatory measures should not escalate into broader conflicts. According to him, reason and dialogue must guide international decisions rather than emotion or political posturing.
Concluding his remarks, Shehu Sani appealed for diplomacy and restraint, stressing that countries should prioritize cooperation over punitive actions. He warned that unilateral decisions like visa bans often backfire and fail to address underlying issues in global relations.
