Several political leaders in Rivers State have publicly shown their support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid his ongoing disagreement with Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. The backing comes from influential figures, including Prince Uche Secondus, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara, Alabo Abiye Sekibo, and former Governor Sir Celestine Omehia.
Governor Fubara announced their support during the 2026 New Year State Banquet at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday. He described the leaders’ endorsement as a strong signal of confidence in his administration and alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s policies.
The move comes months after Fubara and Wike fell out, despite a peace deal previously brokered by President Tinubu. Wike has recently expressed concern that Fubara has deviated from the original terms of that agreement, raising tensions over the governor’s re-election plans.
Fubara, however, remains focused on his administration’s agenda, emphasizing that the support from respected political figures reinforces his commitment to good governance and stability in the state. The endorsement highlights the divisions in Rivers politics as the 2027 elections approach.
