Chelsea legend John Terry has hinted that Enzo Maresca’s lack of experience was one of the reasons the club decided to end his time as manager. Speaking in a recent interview, Terry suggested that managing a big club like Chelsea requires more than good ideas — it also demands proven leadership and the ability to handle pressure.
Terry explained that Chelsea is not a club where a coach can learn on the job. With high expectations from fans, players, and owners, the manager must already have strong experience at the top level. According to him, this pressure can be difficult for younger or less experienced coaches to manage effectively.
While Terry praised Maresca’s football philosophy and potential, he said the club needs someone who can deliver results immediately. Chelsea’s recent struggles made the management feel a change was necessary to steady the team and return it to winning ways.
The former captain added that the decision was not personal but purely professional. He said Chelsea’s ambition to compete for trophies every season means tough choices have to be made, even when the coach shows promise for the future.
